Working With XL

Four ways to work with XL

Too often, marketing briefs are written with the deliverable already decided. Let's run a campaign. We need to rebrand. Please put together a content plan. The brief becomes guesswork, rather than a genuine answer to the mystery of what is holding the business back.

Every route below starts by solving that mystery. What happens next depends on how much of the business it touches, and how quickly you need to move.

An illustration of a person standing at a crossroads, with four distinct rooms branching off — each representing a different way to work with XL.

XL Marketing Services is a strategic marketing and growth consultancy based in Dubai. We work with founders, CEOs, CMOs and marketing leaders in technology, lifestyle and luxury, and health, wellness and biohacking, across the UAE, South Africa and the wider MEA region. Every engagement begins with the business decision that needs resolving — positioning, go-to-market, B2B growth, marketing and sales alignment, AI search visibility or senior marketing leadership — so the work that follows is built on evidence rather than activity.

Brand & Content Sprints

One important marketing problem. Senior attention. A defined finish line.

Not every business is ready for a large engagement, and not every problem needs one.

Sprints are a way to work with XL on a single marketing priority within a controlled budget. Over two to four weeks we combine focused strategic thinking with studio-grade execution and produce something the business can use straight away — a stronger market message, a cornerstone authority asset, a launch foundation, or a repair to a buyer journey that is losing people.

Every Sprint begins by clarifying the decision behind the deliverable you have asked for. We gather only the evidence that decision requires, develop the agreed work, and hand over implementation and measurement guidance. There is no long-term commitment. Scope, deliverables, timeline and investment are agreed before anything begins.

Best suited to
  • A business that needs senior marketing expertise within a set budget
  • A launch that needs stronger positioning and campaign direction
  • Messaging that no longer reflects what the business has become
  • A cornerstone content series built for search and AI-led discovery
  • A priority buyer journey or conversion problem
  • A leadership team that needs agreement before committing further budget
  • A growth decision that cannot wait for a broader change programme
Every Sprint includes
  • Focused discovery and evidence review
  • A clearly framed strategic decision
  • Senior strategic and creative direction
  • Development of the agreed market-ready deliverables
  • Design and development required for those deliverables
  • One stakeholder review and refinement cycle
  • Implementation priorities and ownership guidance
  • A concise measurement and learning plan
  • A final handover session
Timeline: 2–4 weeks   Investment: typically $6,500–$18,000, depending on complexity, evidence requirements, stakeholder involvement and production scope. The two Sprints below — at $6,500 and $8,500 — are examples; the range reflects scope, not a menu of fixed options.

Sprints are not reduced versions of a retainer, and they are not bundles of disconnected outputs. Each one is built to solve one important problem, remove a constraint, and leave a usable result behind.

Sprint 01 — Brand Decision Sprint

From $6,500
The client situation

A rebrand is being discussed. The identity looks dated to the people who see it every day, campaigns are underperforming, and a new look is starting to feel like the answer. Nobody has yet established whether the brand is the constraint, or whether it is carrying the visible symptoms of something operational underneath.

The decision

Does this business need a rebrand, a repositioning, a refresh or a repair — and what is the smallest sufficient change that will make it easier to understand, recognise, trust and choose?

Scope includes
  • Structured review of the observed symptoms against their likely underlying conditions
  • Recognition audit of existing distinctive assets: what buyers already know, and what rebuilding it would cost
  • Positioning review across your website, LinkedIn and third-party sources
  • Evidence review covering recent wins, losses, and where buyers misclassify the business
  • Competitor positioning and category comparison
  • A written recommendation — rebrand, reposition, refresh or repair — with the reasoning and the evidence behind it
  • Scope, cost, risk and rollout sequencing for the recommended route
  • Where the recommendation is reposition or refresh: a positioning statement, a messaging framework covering audience, proposition, proof and objections, and core page copy rewritten to it
  • Implementation priorities and ownership guidance
  • Measurement baseline and 90-day learning plan
Typical outcome

A decision leadership can defend, with the cheapest sufficient version of it identified — including, where the evidence points that way, the case for leaving the brand alone.

Visual identity design and rollout are scoped separately once the decision is made.

Sprint 02 — AI Visibility & Authority Content Sprint

From $8,500
The client situation

The company knows its subject properly. Its content does not show it. What exists is scattered, hard to find, or written generally enough that search engines and AI answer platforms have no reason to cite it over anyone else's.

The decision

Which question should this brand become the credible answer to, and what evidence, expertise and structure will earn it that position?

Scope includes
  • Review of current search and AI discoverability
  • Audience-question and search-intent analysis
  • Competitor answer and content-gap review
  • Selection of one commercially relevant cornerstone topic
  • Cornerstone article strategy and information architecture
  • One researched and fully developed cornerstone article
  • Editorial design and development of that asset
  • Three supporting article briefs or derivative assets
  • On-page SEO and answer-engine structure
  • Internal-linking recommendations
  • Author, evidence, citation and trust-signal recommendations
  • Publishing and technical implementation within the agreed platform scope
  • Measurement baseline and 90-day learning plan
Typical outcome

An authority asset good enough to be cited, and a structure the rest of your content can be built onto.

The Strategic Blueprint Workshop

Your results tell you where you stand. They don't tell you what to do on Monday.

This is ninety minutes with the person who built the diagnostic, working on your business rather than the category. Before we meet, we read your site and your category's top queries the way AI search systems read them, and compare that against how you answered. The gap between the two is usually where the conversation starts.

It's a working session, not a presentation. Bring the constraint you are actually under — the budget that won't move, the team of two, the launch in six weeks — because the plan has to survive it.

You'll leave with
  • A read on your results that accounts for what we can see on your site, and what your competitors are doing that you cannot see from inside
  • A thirty-day plan your own team can run, ordered by what will change something soonest
  • The structural fixes worth making first — the ones that decide whether AI search can describe your business accurately at all
  • A clear view of where to put the next portion of budget and attention, and what to stop doing to free it up
$950. Ninety minutes, private, recorded, with your thirty-day plan sent within two working days.

If you commission a Sprint, a Growth Audit or a Studio Partnership within ninety days, the $950 is credited against it.

Held in confidence.

The Growth Audit

A Sprint solves one problem you have already identified. The Growth Audit establishes which problem to solve, then fixes it.

We do not begin a partnership without first understanding the infrastructure and correcting what is holding it back.

TierInvestmentScope
Tier 1 — Growth Scale $9,500–$12,500 Single-market search and AI visibility audit, a rebuild of core messaging, and a baseline report on where the funnel is losing people. Includes implementation of the priority amendments by our team. Where your systems are proprietary or access is restricted, your internal team receives an execution roadmap they can run instead.
Tier 2 — Mid-Market $15,000–$18,500
typically 6–8 weeks
Best suited to an established company operating across two markets, audiences or product lines, with several teams contributing to the buyer experience. Includes a multi-market audit, competitor positioning across search and answer engines, and a custom dual-sided CAC and CLV measurement framework.
Tier 3 — Enterprise & Global Platforms $25,000–$35,000+ Global infrastructure audit across multiple audiences, genres or subcultures, incrementality testing set up where client-side holdout capability and clean data allow, and an executive presentation built for the boardroom.

For scoping, a multi-market engagement (Tier 2) begins at two distinct geographic markets — South Africa and the UAE, the UAE and Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar. Further markets, languages, regulatory requirements and regional stakeholder groups increase the scope.

A situation we recognise — a health technology, biohacking, professional-services or entertainment brand is moving from South Africa into the UAE, or from the UAE into another GCC market. The core position needs to hold while the message, market presence and buyer journey adapt to different cultural, commercial and search environments.

Studio Partnerships

Ongoing work across the six levers: clarity, positioning, earned presence, content structure, buyer intent and measurement.

PartnershipInvestmentBest suited to
Scale Partnership
3, 4 or 6 months
$5,500–$10,000/mo Growth-stage companies moving from campaign-by-campaign activity to a structured system. Continuing visibility work, content blueprinting, and monthly strategic advisory.
Studio Partnership
4, 6 or 12 months
$12,500–$25,000/mo Established brands entering new markets. Full content operations, earned editorial presence, review-platform accuracy and citation correction, CRM integration, and work across both sides of the market where the model requires it.
Enterprise Authority Partnership
6 or 12 months
$30,000–$50,000+/mo Global two-sided marketplaces and multi-region leaders. Fractional growth leadership, sustained visibility work across international answer engines, and management of the route from discovery through to community.
Choosing the term

Partnerships run for 3, 4, 6 or 12 months, chosen against the objective and the time the work realistically needs to be implemented, observed and improved.

Three months

Implementing one clearly defined priority after the Growth Audit: launching an authority content system, correcting a buyer journey, establishing a new operating rhythm.

Four months

A defined initiative that needs implementation followed by a first learning and improvement cycle: a market-entry campaign, a messaging rollout, a coordinated content programme.

Six months

Sustained work across several connected levers, with enough time to establish a baseline, test the market's response and improve the system.

Twelve months

Multi-market brands and platforms needing ongoing fractional leadership, cross-functional governance, capability building, and several cycles of implementation and learning.

The recommended term follows the objective and the realistic learning period. It is not a contract preference.

What is included, and what is costed separately

Our proposals give you a realistic view of what implementing the agreed work will cost.

Included within the agreed scope

  • XL's strategy, advisory and project direction
  • Copywriting, content development and editorial direction
  • Design and development required for the specified deliverables
  • Agreed website and technical amendments where access permits
  • Outreach and earned placement in publications that do not charge placement fees
  • Coordination with agreed internal teams and delivery partners
  • The review, refinement and handover cycles stated in the proposal

Costed separately where required

  • Paid media planning, management and media spend
  • Paid editorial, advertorial, sponsorship or PR placement fees
  • Specialist primary research: commissioned interviews, surveys, panels, focus groups, market studies
  • Specialist third-party data or research licences
  • Translation, complex localisation, or regulatory review beyond the agreed scope
  • External software, platform, hosting or technology fees
  • Travel, production or specialist supplier costs not included in the original proposal

In South Africa, relevant editorial opportunities can often be secured without a placement fee. In the UAE and other markets where publishers require payment, any placement, sponsorship or advertorial cost is disclosed and approved before we commit to it. No third-party cost is incurred on your behalf without prior approval.

Who we work with

We work with organisations whose offer is complex enough to need simplifying, who have to build trust across a long buying journey, and who need to educate an audience before it is ready to buy.

  • Technology and emerging-technology companies
  • Health, wellness and biohacking brands
  • Expert-led and boutique professional-services firms
  • Entertainment, music and creator-economy businesses
  • Selected two-sided marketplaces, platforms and member communities
  • Established brands entering new geographic or category markets

We are most useful when a business is facing a consequential growth decision, and least useful when what is wanted is more activity.
